His Strong Arm and Powerful Hand

Deuteronomy 5:15 “Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, but the Lord your God brought you out with His strong hand and powerful arm. That is why the Lord your God has commanded you to rest on the Sabbath day.”

God said to remember what you were before He saved you: you were a slave. A slave has no rights, no standing in society, no dignity as a human being, regarded as a possession, and was subjected to hard labor with no pay…
Before God saved you, you could’ve had fame and fortune. But the reality is all of that was a front of something unseen and deceptive. You could have been bound to fear, afraid of losing that wealth, or afraid that your children will be kidnapped, afraid of broken relationships… Or maybe you were a slave to addictions, or tormenting thoughts or emotional turmoil…
The Lord said it is His strong hand and powerful arm that saved you. There is nothing you can do or any human effort that can deliver you and set you free, it is only by His strength.
And the reason that we are commanded to keep the Sabbath is because it is a continual reminder that our deliverance in any situation is by His grace and power at work in our lives. We don’t try to clean up our act, but we rely on Him. We call on Him to save us. We draw on His strength and power at work in us. The Sabbath is a reminder that we rest in Him and His ability to save us. It is a reminder to get Him involved in your situation.
What do you need saving from? Ask Him and trust that His power is what will deliver you.
