Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
In this world, there are many thoughts that bombard our minds. It’s easy to dwell on thoughts about the hurtful things people have done to us, or to dwell on negative reports that we heard on tv that incite fear in us. So he says, this is how you must live: fix your thoughts… Focus, keep it steady on this course, do it deliberately…
Thoughts that are true (what does God have to say about it?); honorable and right (what gives honor and what conforms to God’s will?); pure and lovely and admirable (what is chaste and pleasing and of good report?); excellent and worthy of praise (what are good and commendable? ). These are the thoughts that are to fill our minds so that our hearts stay pure and not weighed down. It does require some effort as the world wants to pull us downward.
But if we remember that God’s grace is at work in our lives to help us, that He is working for our good because He loves us, it makes it a bit easier for us to keep our minds focused on the good that is being worked out in our lives.
