Psalms 1:1-3 “Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit in each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”
If you want a compass to see where you’re headed, take a look at your close friends. They influence your life more than you realize.
Who speaks into your life? When you surround yourself with godly people, your conversations are influenced by God’s Word; not necessarily because they quote from the Bible, but because their thoughts are influenced by God’s Word and by His Spirit. The Psalm says that those words bring life and prosperity. Your life gets better. Your inner man gets stronger.
Trees planted along the riverbank constantly have access to water, so their leaves are always fresh. They produce fruit in its season. So it is with a person who constantly keeps himself connected to the Spirit of God. His wisdom will guide you as you make decisions. His Spirit will fill you with His peace. Your words will build up those around you.
The Psalm ends by saying “For the Lord watches over the path of the godly…” The more God’s Word influences your life, the better your life will go. As you read, ask Him for revelation, some thing that will help you today in the Word you read; then let it be on your mind throughout the day. Make it a daily practice. Small steps that one day will make a big difference.
