Mark 11:20-21 “The next morning as they passed by the fig tree He had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up. Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed, ‘Look, Rabbi! The fig tree you cursed has withered and died!'”
Jesus had cursed a tree that looked like it had fruit. It deceived the eyes of onlookers. It looked good but it had no fruit.
In our lives, Jesus doesn’t want us to just look good, He wants to see us producing fruit. He wants to see that we’re growing in the knowledge of Him. He wants to see that the knowledge we have is producing in our lives, that we put to practice the revelations and realizations we have. But sometimes the issues we have in our hearts keep us from growing and becoming better so He deals with the root causes. We go through valleys, face challenges and trials – because those are the things that bring out what’s hidden inside. They show us where we’re at. They show what issues remain unresolved, and what have to be brought before Him so He could uproot them. Those issues affect the way we live, the way we interact with others, affect our perceptions and attitudes about life. He deals with them so we could be set free!
What issues about yourself do you see? Bring them before Him and ask Him to remove them at their root. And know, that while He is working on you, removing the dross and sludge, He continues to hold you up, to encourage you, to love you. Because you are His child and He is your Abba.
