John 8:32 “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
We’ve heard this so many times. It’s been quoted in movies, tv shows, etc. But most of the time it’s quoted out of context, or just the last part is quoted. Jesus said you will know the truth, and the truth [that you know] will set you free. It’s what you know that counts! The truth alone won’t do it. Because knowing here isn’t about head knowledge, it’s knowing from your heart.
The verses following He explains to His disciples what being set free is about, and He talks about being in the family of God, then says in verse 17: if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. What is it about the Son, and knowledge, and being free? When you know Jesus in a personal way, you spend time with Him, have conversations with Him, experience Him, you begin to truly understand what it means to have Jesus in your heart. When you know what He did for you to purchase your salvation, you understand the meaning of what it is to be a part of God’s family. Knowing that sets you free from so many fears and from the power of sin! That kind of knowledge has so many layers, and you go through many processes to understand it.
Having Him as your personal Lord and Savior is the first step. Now ask Him “Open my understanding so I can know what it means to be truly free! In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
