The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation

Psalm 27:1-3 “The Lord is my light and my salvation – so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.”

The world has become a scary place to live in – unstable, dangerous, polluted, anything and everything has become toxic. But when you realize that there is NOTHING that can happen to you without God’s permission, what is there to fear? When you realize that it is God Who protects you, Who holds you in His hand, Who guards you… Is there anything to fear?
Verse 3 says, “even if I am surrounded and attacked, I will remain confident”. There’s a story in 1 Kings where Elisha the prophet was surrounded by a great army which came to arrest him. His servant was freaking out, 2 people against troops, chariots, and horses that were enough to surround the city! But Elisha remained cool and calm. The servant cried, “what will we do now?” Elisha said, “don’t be afraid there are more on our side than on theirs!” And Elisha prayed for the servant’s eyes to be opened. And when he looked, he saw chariots of fire everywhere! Then he prayed that the army against him would go blind. This story tells us that there is no reason to fear. When you KNOW that God is on your side, He will take care of you! Anyone who goes against you is answerable to Him. Even if you face trouble, you will come out on the other side!
“Father, You are amazing! You hold me in Your hands, always caring for me… In the areas where fear tries to take hold, open my eyes to see through Your eyes. By Your grace and power, I will come out victorious, in Jesus’ most precious Name, amen!”
