This Is Real Love

1 John 4:10 “This is real love – not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”

Many of us have grown up in dysfunctional families and have no idea what real love is, so when a counterfeit one shows up we think it’s real and latch on to it. The scripture says “THIS is real love…” He wants us to know the real deal. God didn’t wait for us to be perfect or to have it altogether before He loved us. He loved us while we were still sinners, while our lives were a mess, while we didn’t even know Him or maybe even hated Him. Love moved Him to do something about the situation we were in when we didn’t deserve it, when we didn’t ask for it – He sent His Son as a sacrifice to save us.

As a parent, it’s so much harder to see our child suffer, we’d rather suffer ourselves. To let your son suffer for someone who hates you just to save them?!? That is love in action! God wanted to show us how precious we are to Him by being willing to suffer that way just to save us!

You may have asked “Does God really love me?” “Does God care about me?” The answer is “YES!” Think about what He went through for YOU and that should remove all doubt. You may say “But I don’t deserve it.” Yes, you don’t. But He still chose to love you anyway! Real love is incomprehensible, unfathomable, unconditional… And He chose YOU to be the recipient of it! He chose you to be a part of His family so He can pour His love into you and give you hope – hope for a better future, hope out of your hopeless situation. He wants to be your Daddy so He can take care of you. He wants you to experience REAL LOVE.

“Abba, You have shown me what real love is. Thank You for choosing me to be a part of Your family. Thank You for loving me even when I don’t deserve it. Establish me in Your love. Let my life reflect the love You have poured into me so that others may know You through me. In Jesus Name I ask, amen.”
