Deuteronomy 7:6 “For you are a holy people, who belong to the Lord your God. Of all the people on earth, the Lord your God has chosen you to be His own special treasure.”
To be holy doesn’t mean to be put on a pedestal and live like a monk out in the boondocks, away from reality. To be holy is to be set apart. It means to stand out different from the rest of the world. The standards by which you live are higher, yet it doesn’t mean your attitude is “holier-than-thou”. God wants us to live in the world but not be of it. So while the rest of the world is shouting anger and revenge, you extend understanding and compassion. While the world gives judgment and condemnation, you offer love and acceptance. Many times it could be difficult, even feel like impossible at times, especially when other people could be mean and disrespectful. But those are the times when you lean on God the most and ask Him to see you through, relying on His grace to do what you cannot on your own.
The Bible says He chose you to be His own special treasure. When He chose you it wasn’t because you deserved it, or because were already living like a saint. He chose you because He wants to display His power through you: when before you acted a certain way, and now because of relying on Him, you behave differently. A changed life is what he’s after. It’s what gives Him glory.
“Abba, there is no way I can live a life that pleases You without Your grace at work in my life. Change the desires of my heart that aren’t aligned with Yours. I want to always be aware that You are with me, aware that You are changing me so that my life gives you glory. Let my life be a blessing to those I come across. In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.”
