Psalm 23:3 “He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.”
One of the main duties of a shepherd is to guide his sheep. He leads his sheep not only to places of nourishment and rest but he also leads them in the proper paths. The sheep don’t need to know where the places of water and green grass are, they just need to follow their shepherd. Often it is necessary for the shepherd to lead his flock great distances to find both pasture and water. Some paths are dangerous and should be avoided. The good shepherd must lead his sheep in the right paths.
God’s guidance in the life of a believer is more than just a matter of leading us in the “right path”; it involves His leading us in “paths of righteousness.” What a wonderful word of comfort for those who seem to think that God’s will is some kind of mystery, known only to the few who are so fortunate to find it. He reveals it to His people when they take the time to listen. When we know His will, it becomes easier to follow Him. We don’t live in confusion which also means we can live our lives in confidence and peace.
“Jesus, open my eyes that I may see where You are leading me. Open my ears that I may hear Your voice clearly. Show me the paths of righteousness You are leading me to in the steps I take every day. Let Your Name be lifted up in my life. Amen.”
