We Are Children Of The Free Woman

Galatians 4:23,31 “The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the free born wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of His promise….So dear brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman; we are children of the free woman.”

The verses are talking about 2 sons, one born of human effort, one born miraculously – the one who was born out of Abraham and Sarah’s old age. Both are symbols of the way we choose to live our life: to live out of our own wisdom and effort to make it successful in this world but filled with stress or do we live trusting the guidance He gives, following His leading, and resting in the finished work of the Cross? Many times we like to take things in our own hands in our attempt to manipulate events and then falling flat on our faces realizing we should have done things another way, when all God is waiting for us to do is ask Him to get involved in our daily decisions, and then trusting Him to show us the way we should go. It’s not always easy especially when you’re still learning to hear His voice, learning another way of living. But what’s important is that you start somewhere: read His Word, get familiar with His ways and the way He thinks, and always ask Him to get involved in your life as your day begins. And slowly your life will start to change as you learn to trust Him more and more.

“Abba, You have given me the privilege of making me Your child so that my life’s direction will change. You have given me Your Holy Spirit so that I am not left alone as I learn to walk this new life. I surrender myself to You because You are my only Hope for a different life. I want to live in Your peace, with Your joy, filled with the confidence of Your love. Teach me Your ways so that I can rest in the finished work that Christ made available for me. In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.”
