For you, He overcame it all!

Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

The judgment for every single sin committed by every single person born on earth was placed on Jesus. The full wrath of God against His holiness, Jesus faced and was laid on Him. He paid our debt.

In tribal language, when a judge faces an accused man and pronounces his judgment on a guilty man, the punishment had to satisfy the sense of loss that the aggrieved party suffered. Depending on the severity of the crime, he could be whipped or hanged, a limb cut off, eyes gouged out, fed to wild animals, etc. The punishment paid for the debt that the sin brought.

The penalty against God’s holiness could only be paid by a perfect man, a perfect sacrifice. That is why Jesus had to come to earth as a man and live the sinless life He did with the goal of bringing restoration to man’s relationship with God by being whipped until you could see nothing but raw flesh and bones on His back, His beard pulled out, thorns put together in the shape of a crown pierced His head, nails so large hammered on His hands and feet to keep Him hanging on a cross, while people spat on His face and cursed with vile words, all the while He kept quiet and suffered silently. Our sin was the reason He suffered! When He knew the time was coming, it frightened Him so much, the stress of it all caused His blood vessels to burst that blood came out of His pores! He was thinking of YOU! For you, He suffered!

For you, He overcame it all!

“I can’t even comprehend the pain You suffered for me. My mind cannot grasp why You love me enough to go through what You did. All I have to do is believe and accept it – Your great, mind-boggling, incomprehensible love for me! You deserve more than I can ever give You, so I surrender my life to You. Let my life give You praise. Even though I fail You so many times, help me, by Your power at work in me, let my life glorify You. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
