Matthew 26:39 “He went on slightly farther and bowed with His face to the ground, praying, ‘My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not Mine.'”
Jesus knew what suffering He would have to go through to redeem man, to pay the ransom for our freedom: His life!
First, He gave up the glory of heaven and live on earth. He would have to live as a human being, receive training as a man. Later on, He also would have to rely on the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit; that’s why the Holy Spirit had to descend on Him, as witnessed by John the Baptist. When His end was drawing near, it was in His prayer time that the Father revealed to Him what suffering he would have to endure. That’s when He was getting so stressed that He began to sweat blood! It terrified Him! That’s why He cried out, if another way is possible, I don’t want to go through this! Who knows how much time may have passed between when He asked “if it’s possible…” to “not My will but Yours”? He saw your face, your parents, siblings, your spouse, children and grandchildren, friends… He said, I’ll do it for them Father. Not My will. It Yours! That’s how much He loves you! He did it all for you!
“Thank You Abba, that You were willing to send Your Son to suffer and die so I could be free, so I could be restored back to You. Thank You Jesus, that You gave Your life for me. You went through all of that because You love me! I am overwhelmed with joy! I offer my life to You Jesus, to use for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, amen
