Grace & Truth

John 1:17 “For the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

Through Moses, the Law was given. God wanted us to know how He wanted us to live, what a holy life looked like, to Him and to our fellowmen; so that we will see that without a Savior, we have no way to please God; without Him, our lives would be chaotic, each one just living to fulfill one’s desires even at the cost of someone else’s misery…. And then He sent Jesus. It was through Jesus’s life and death that grace and truth came. Grace is the favor from God that we don’t deserve. But it wasn’t just Grace, but also Truth. Grace is what empowers us to live what Truth calls us to. You see, it’s not enough that Grace is made available to us and then we can live any way we want to, that will make us spoiled brats.

The Truth is that God wants us to live lives that are holy and bring Him glory so we don’t destroy ourselves, and Grace is the enabling power working in us so we don’t have to struggle in our human effort. He wants us to rely on His power to live that way. God didn’t want us to know what He wanted and leave us to our own devices. Through Jesus, He gave us a new nature, a righteous one; and the grace – the power and willingness to live His Truth. And knowledge of that Truth is what sets us free to live the overcoming, victorious life we all want! That becomes the winning combination – Grace and Truth. They go hand in hand. We can live the God-kind of life! After all, it is still about “Let Your will be done on earth as it is being done in Heaven”.

“Abba, reveal more of Your truth to me that I may live the life that reflects Whose I am, by Your grace. Let Your will be done on earth as it is being done in heaven, in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
