Psalm 37:4 “Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you your heart’s desires.”
A lot of people have misunderstood this verse to thinking that whatever you wish for, God will give to you. Our Abba does not raise spoiled brats, children with no character who only live for their selfish desires. He wants you to reflect Him – His heart, His love, His character. So as you spend time in His Presence, thanking Him, worshipping Him, He begins to reveal Himself to you; and the more He does, the more you learn to enjoy His Presence. The more you find joy in Him, He puts His desires in your heart: the desire to be godly, the desire to serve Him, to live out His will, to hear His voice, etc This doesn’t mean He doesn’t want you to have a nice house, or a nice car or other nice material things, but He doesn’t want those things to fill your heart. Seek Him. And if you’re struggling about spending time with Him, ask Him to give you that desire. Let His joy and peace fill your heart. Ask Him to change you, because He will!
“Abba, fill my heart with a love for Your Presence, a love for Your Word and Your will. In Jesus Name I ask, amen.”
